The 2011 season is approaching quickly, and again the MNCDBA will have a combined 1st and 2nd grade competition.
Reigning zone champions in 1st grade Park Beach will field a 1st and 2nd grade team, Reigning district 2nd grade champs West Coffs will challenge Park Beach in first grade, whilst 2010 3rd grade victors Urunga will step up a class into 2nd grade. Sawtell and Coffs Ex Services round out the competition, both also competing in 2nd grade.
Although still six weeks away some clubs are already getting an idea as to the make up of their teams for the top flight.
Park Beach has trial teams posted with some big names absent from the list. Jim Swan and Alan Carver are both notable omissions, both unavailable due to other commitments at this time. West Coffs have reportedly picked up noted ex services player Rod Hiscock and Urunga father and son Glenn and Corey Wedlock. Corey is an outstanding junior with a big future in the game.
Sawtell have apparently maintained the same side as last season with very few changes announced.
Urunga has lost the Wedlocks as stated above, however the big losers appear to be Coffs Ex Services. Early indications are that they have lost all three skippers from last years side, with Rod Hiscock (West Coffs), Kent Price (unavailable) and Dallas Cole (unavailable) all missing from last years first grade outfit.
Plenty of time to go before the season commences but my early tip would be first grade to be decided in the last round, Park Beach and Urunga to fight out the two's and Coffs Ex Services to have a long season...
Til next time,
Chippy
