Club Champ Results (well overdue!!)

With the major events such as Singles and Pairs completed for the year, focus turns in most clubs to the more team oriented events such as club Fours and Triples, Minor and also mixed events.

 The Nambucca Heads Triples Final was played on Sunday 24/6 with the following results:

Winners

Grant Lawrence, Mick Ellison & Tony Urquhart

Runners Up

Chris Evans, Keven Smith & Ian Poletti.

 

The win comes as no surprise given the top form of Tony Urquhart over the past nine months.

 

At West Coffs two Events have recently concluded, with the Minor Singles decider falling in the favour of Barry Hall over Frank Chetcuti 31-20.

The Mixed Pairs finals saw Lee and Paul North defeat Marlene and  Ron Leonard 20-18 in a very close contest. A top final was always on the cards after both sides defeated both of last years finalists in the semi finals.

 

Finally, at Park Beach, there is a highly anticipated Club Triples final scheduled on the 06/10 with Pete Wirth, Graeme Colman & Aden Pike up against Kali Roraduri, Barry Griffiths and Rummy Cutmore. Either way a rookie will claim a rare first season club title with Pete and Kali both new to the sport but both very much addicted to our wonderful game.

2012 C/CC District Results

The 2012 District Champion of Club Champion Singles and Pairs has been run and won at the C-ex Woolgoolga club during August.

The Singles was disappointing with only six of the district's champions entering, nonetheless those that did compete produced some top class bowls. West Coffs Andy Campbell reached the final after a win over North Beach's Ian Machon. His opponent would be Nambucca's Tony Urquhart who survived a tough encounter against Shayne Dodd in what was arguably the match of the event.
Tony carried on his good form to take out the final over Andy and book a place in the zone final.

The Pairs was the next event with a slightly better roll up, with nine sides entering. The first semi final saw father and son combination Glenn and Corey Wedlock up against Sawtell's Noel Stahlut (subbing for injured Neil Davison) and Graham Green, the Sawtell pair getting over the line by just one shot. Local hopes Dave Valentine and Shayne Dodd battled with Daryl and Grant Lawrence in the second semi final who had been impressive in their earlier victory over the Urunga champions. The locals prevailed in another tough match, advancing courtesy of a five shot margin.
Last years runners up, being Valentine and Dodd, went into the decider the favourites however it was to be yet another year as bridesmaids for the locals, as Stahlut and Green took out the title with a nine shot win.

The zone finals of these events were held last Saturday. At this stage only the results of the singles is known.
Unfortunately Tony ran into a red hot Peter Taylor from Kempsey Heights and was defeated. The loss however was against a quality opponent, Taylor reaching the state final of this event in 2008.
