Combined Firsts and Seconds Grade:
Park Beach continued where they left off in 2010 with a 6-0 victory over Coffs Ex Services at Coffs. Although Park Beach won on all rinks, there was only ten shots difference on the big board, and the result could have gone either way with three ends remaining.
Sawtell caused the first upset of the season, with the number two graded side beating West Coffs on their home turf 5-1. The win reaffirms Sawtell's credentials as the dark horse of the competition, and places West Coffs behind the eight ball after just one round.
Park Beach seconds continued the trend of away teams winning, when they took the points 5-1 at Urunga. John Bradley's restored some pride, picking up the rink for the home side.
Results from other grades:
Grade Three:
Park Beach Def Sawtell 5.5-0.5
Nambucca Heads Def West Coffs 6-0
Grade Four:
Nambucca Heads Def Coffs Ex Services 6-0
Sawtell Def Urunga 6-0
Woolgoolga Def Scotts Head 5-1
Grade Five:
Bowraville Def Stuarts Point 6-0
Macksville Def Urunga 6-0
Park Beach Def Sawtell 5-1
Woolgoolga Def Bellingen 5-1
Grade Six:
Park Beach Def Coffs Ex Services 5-1
North Beach Def Nambucca Heads 5-1
West Coffs Def Sawtell 5-1
Grade Seven:

Congrats to all winners

Pennant Preview
Round One of The Mid North Coast Pennant Competition starts this weekend, with six teams competing in the combined First and Second Grade Event.
West Coffs has named a team with three new faces, being Corey and Glenn Wedlock, and Rod Hiscock, and will be looking to continue the strong form that saw them take out the second grade title last year. The side would be even money with reigning first grade champs Park Beach to win the overall title in this combined division, and more importantly the first grade flag.
Team: Corey Wedlock,Martin Wilson, Shawn Wilson, Tony Wills.
Geoff Flynn, Cameron Wills, Andrew Campbell, Rod Hiscock.
Laurie Miles, Gary Launt, Glenn Wedlock, Stuart Hartigan.
Park Beach Firsts have no less than five changes to the team that won last years district and zone first grade crowns, however all changes have come from within house. All three leads named for round one will be making their debut in the one's whilst some familiar faces return to the top flight...
Team: Stephen Kennedy, Terry Kadwell, John Bain, Ric Southam.
Bob Bain, Cory Daley, Rod Farmer, Mark Menzies.
Steve Plumb, Wayne Rowbottom, Graeme Colman, Col Pritchard.
Sawtell have also named a few new players in their side which is hoping to take out the Grade Two flag. Journeyman Phil Hall has made the jump from Park Beach and is expected to team with former Nambucca clubmate Graeme Purvis for what should be a formidable rink.
Team: Noel Stahlut, John Townsend, Graeme Purvis, Phil Hall.
Neil Davidson, Dennis Bond, Greg Cridge, P T Clarke.
Ray Cridge, Ben Proctor, Paul Bartholomew, Ian Weldon.
Coffs Ex Services may have dropped back to Second Grade, but despite losing two of last years skippers, the side looks very competitive. The ever reliable Dallas Cole will steer the ship, however it will be Grant Blom, promoted to a skippers position that could hold the key to their success. It will the teams away form that determines their fate.
Team: Brian Saville, John Robinson, Erwin Hodikin, Aden Pike.
Doug Burridge, Doug Powell, Garry Herbert, Grant Blom.
Alby McLean, Derry McLean, John Diggleman, Dallas Cole.
Park Beach Seconds appear to have a strong mix of youth and experience, and provided they can get off to a good start, could be the dark horse of the second grade sides. If the front ends can perform, the skippers have the experience to cause a lot of damage...
Team: Josh Hicks, Alan Carver, Charlie Attard, Rob Wardrop.
Ben Jacquin, Barry Garner, Don Wood, Peter Woodsell.
Neil Williams, Quinton Dalrymple, Phil Toy, Laurie Morris.
Urunga are the new kids on the block after taking out the third grade last season. On paper the teams appear well balanced and very competitive. Whether the club is up to the standard of the other first and second grade sides.. only time will tell.
Round One: (home sides first)
West Coffs Vs Sawtell
Urunga Vs Park Beach Two
Coffs Ex Vs Park Beach One
The early prediction that the first grade will be decided in round ten by the clash between the two first grade sides still stands. However in Grade two, any four of the teams appear capable of taking the title. I'll stick my neck out and say Parky two's just ahead of Sawtell.
Results for all grades will be posted as they come to hand.
Good luck to all bowlers in every grade!

Zone Player of the Year
Shane Globits from Westport in the Lower North Coast District is already odds on favourite to take out the 2011 Zone 14 Bowler of the Year, having won all three opening district championships thus far!
"Globoy" has taken out the singles, pairs and triples and will be hoping to defend his district fours title over the coming weekends!
With a revised scoring system that sees points only scored for success at district and not zone or higher, Shane has a perfect result so far with 15 points from a possible 15! His team mate in the pairs and triples, Peter Taylor may be his only challenger, currently on 10 points..
Mid North Coast bowlers with aspirations of taking out this award will be facing an uphill battle, with entries in MNC district championships traditionally much higher than the LNC, making multiple successes very hard to come by, however as club championships also score points the race may not be over just yet...
I'll attempt to keep a running tally of the higher point scorers throughout the year to see if anyone can run down Shane's early lead.
Thanks to "smitty" and the Port City Bowls Blog for posting the results of the LNC championships.

Around the Greens - Club Championships
Park Beach has finalised its first event for the year, being the club fours championship. It was great to see that this year there was no "stacked" teams, with a good mix of the elite bowlers teaming up with the less experienced in the club. The final seemed a one sided contest mid way through before Rob Wardop's side mounted a late comeback, falling three shots short of Johnny Bain's team. For Johnny, Bob Bain and Dennis Brown this was an extra sweet result, adding to their success just two weeks earlier in the Alan Buchan Fours!
The finalists of the club pairs has also been determined with Dennis Brown again featuring, teaming with Keith Scullin. The duo will square off against Terry Kadwell and John Eding for the crown at 9am Sunday 13th February.
I will endeavour to publish results from all local clubs, and am happy to receive results from anyone who has the means to obtain them. Please email them to chippybowls@yahoo.com.
Park Beach Club Fours Final:
Bob Bain, Steve Plumb, Dennis Brown and John Bain Def Tom Blow, John Holmes, Fred Aboulehaf and Rob Wardrop 22-19.

ALAN BUCHAN FOURS RESULTS
The Alan Buchan Fours carnival held at Park Beach on the 8th and 9th of January again proved a successful event with a near capacity field competing. Competition was fierce, with only three sides managing to remain unbeaten.
In the end a count back was required to separate the top two sides, with the local boys skippered by Johnny Bain winning by just two shots on margins over a composite team from Armidale and Inverell skippered by the well credentialed Scott Hamilton.
Only one point further back was the other unbeaten side from West Coffs lead by skip Stuart Hartigan.
Bain and team walked away with $2000.00 for first prize.
Results:
1st: Bob Bain, Barry Garner, Dennis Brown and John Bain (Park Beach) scoring 148 pts and a margin of 58.
2nd: T McMillan, C Brodbeck, B Ahoy and S Hamilton (composite) - 148 pts and 56 margin.
3rd: C Wills, T Wills, R Hiscock and S Hartigan (West Coffs) - 147 pts.
4th: J Bennett, P Woodsell, P Toy and L Morris (Park Beach) - 126 pts.
