District Triples Decided

After a horror week of weather the skies cleared just in time for the final of the Mid North Coast Singles to be played at host club Scotts Head last Saturday.
Park Beach was assured of a winner, with both finalists coming from the strong club.
Both sides refused to give an inch in the opening ends, the score even at 13 all after 15 ends. A crucial four scored on the 16th end proved the catalyst for Cory Daley's side of John Bain and Mark Menzies to establish dominance and a match winning lead, finishing nine clear of Wayne Rowbottom, Terry Kadwell and skipper Don Wood, the score 26-17.
For Mark Menzies it was a case of fourth time lucky, having reached mid north coast finals on three previous occasions since moving to the district. Mark is a prominent winner in the Armidale area however this was his first success on the MNC. Daley and Bain have now racked up three triples crowns, this being the second as a team, funnily enough Bain claiming his other title with a win over a side skipped by Daley back in 2004 also hosted by Scotts Head.
Kadwell and Rowbottom have both won this event in recent years with different partners, Rowbottom a winner with Daley in 2006, Kadwell a winner in 2005. Wood is a multiple champion having lifted the trophy in 2009, 2007 and also all the way back in 1988! The number of titles held by these finalists is a clear indicator of just how important experience is in these state qualifying events...

Bain, Menzies and Daley will now compete at Park Beach this coming weekend for the zone title against Westport's Bryce Stewart, Peter Taylor and Shane Globits. All zone finals are scheduled this weekend at Park Beach, with Westport's Shane Globits set for a big weekend, competing in the open singles, pairs, triples, and fours!
Clubmate Peter Taylor will join him in all three team disciplines. Multiple starters for the Mid North Coast include Daley, who will also contest the open singles, and Phil Toy who was a district winner in the fours and Senior Singles.

Good Luck to all involved and results will be posted as they come to hand...

Cheers,

Chippy
