State Championships Wrap

No joy for our zone in the state championships with the Big Guns saluting in each discipline.
State Fours saw the Premier League side of Alex Lee, Ashley Mitchell, Cameron Curtis and Carl Healey of Roselands, defeat St Johns Park's Trent Craigie, Lee Such, Peter Foster and Mark Berghoffer 20-14 in a tight match. Westport's entry were beaten by a shot in the opening round.
The Roselands trio of Lee, Curtis and Healey made it a double when they continued their unbeaten run in the State Triples, claiming the final against Ettalong's Harley McDonald, John Roberts and Aron Sheriff 26-17. The winning side put out our zone's hope in the quarter final, being Park Beach's John Bain, Mark Menzies and Cory Daley. The Parky side can take solace in the knowledge that they got closer to the Roselands side than any other in the event.
Aron Sheriff contested his second final in the State Pairs when he teamed with Tony Laguzza, however they would play bridesmaids to the Cabramatta Duo, Michael Clarke and David Holt, who won the final 19-10. Westport's Peter Taylor and Shane Globits reached the quarters before bowing out at the hands of the Cabramatta team.
Aron Sheriff played his third consecutive final of the state championships when he reached the State Singles decider against Oak Flats bowler Eric Johannes. He would not be denied again and claimed his maiden state singles with a 31-23 victory. Park Beach's Cory Daley was narrowly defeated in the opening round.

Although no trophies have made their way back up the coast the zone fourteen representatives did themselves proud against what was possibly the strongest fields assembled in a number of years acros all four events.

Cheers,

Chippy
