Club Champs 2013

2013 club events are well under way at all clubs within the MNC district. West Coffs, Park Beach, Urunga and Sawtell have all concluded their club fours championships and are moving into the next events.

At Urunga Graham Horne has skippered his side of G Banks, B Inskip and Danny Knight to a thrilling one shot victory over R Sharkey, Bruce Hardman, Josh Shearim and Brett McDonnell. The winners timed their run well, trailing for the majority of the match, only taking the lead on the next to last end. The return of Josh Shearim to Urunga from Bellingen will help to bolster the clubs pennant chances in the coming weeks.

West Coffs are winning on and off the green, with the club set to be out of voluntary administration in the coming months. On the green, Wayne "Dutchy" Holland has taken his foursome to the club title, his team of Wally Bujeya, Col Amos and Dave Russell out pointing Frank Chetcuti, Alan Taylor, Roy Vines and skip Brock Varley in the decider. Despite the loss, the result is very promising for Varley, who has been bowling for only two years and is in his first full season at the club after starting his bowls career in Penrith.

Sawtell played their club fours final in wet and wild conditions. The quartet of Dennis Anderson, Jim Blaikie, Marty Beerman and George Fisher won the day over Norm Sillar, G Burns, Geoff Peel and Graham Horne.

Park Beach stalwart Jim Swan has gone back to back in the club fours. After only just claiming the 2012 title in late November he has taken his team to the 2013 title. The side of John Eding, Terry Kadwell and Phil Hall were the better side on the day of the final, controlling the match against John Bain, Don Wood (subbing for Andrew Campbell), Marty Wilson and Rod Farmer from the outset.

The club pairs has also been decided at Parky with Phil Toy and Dennis Brown solid winners in the decider against Neil Bowes and Peter Haber. Toy and Brown won a number of tight matches to reach the final, including an extra end win in the quarter final, whilst the duo of Bowes and Haber defeated a number of highly rated sides to get the last game, including 2011 champions John Eding and Terry Kadwell.
Park Beach must be looking forward to the new pennant season, with new members Wilson, Haber, Hall and Campbell all clearly playing well.

More results will follow shortly, with the club pairs final being played at Urunga today, and Woolgoolga having completed their club triples. These results in the next post.

Cheers,

Chippy
