2013 Alan Buchan Fours

The annual Alan Buchan Fours tournament at Park Beach once again proved to be a success despite the intense heat, with thirty six sides entering the event.
Bowlers travelled from all over with teams entered from Tamworth, Lismore and Evans head, just to name a few.

Saturday saw the first three of five rounds played with six sides remaining unbeaten at close of play.
With a point score system based on wins and then ends won, Paul Smith's local side held a one point lead over another local side skippered by Jim Swan.West Coffs Stuart Hartigan was two points further back followed by teams skippered by Graeme Green, Cory Daley and Wayne Holland.

Round Four on Sunday morning saw Smith and Holland suffer defeats whilst Swan and Hartigan both scored big wins. Daley and Green kept their chances alive with wins but fell further back on ends won.

The final round saw Hartigan and co post another win, however Swan did the same, again winning the lion's share of ends. Green managed another victory and Daley was bested by two shots, leaving the title in the hands of Swan and his team of Josh Forbes, Charles Harwood and Justin Sheehan. For their efforts the side picked up prize money to the tune of $500.00 each, presented by tournament patron Alan Buchan himself.

Hartigan's side of David Primmer, Cam Wills and Ben Watson held on for second, Green's Sawtell team Third. The final prize money place went to another Sawtell side skippered by John Hall.

It was great to see a tournament so early in the year, with almost a full compliment of entries, particularly given how 2012 finished. There were a number of new faces, notably from the Sawtell club. One bowler to stand out was ten year old Alex Pyke, one of the new Sawtell faces, who showed already that he can handle the competition with the big boys. Look for him in the coming years in the junior ranks!

Attention in the district will now turn to club championships and pennant trials.
Results will be posted as they come to hand, and please if you want to see your club's results posted contact me with them and I'll endeavour to put them in!

Cheers,

Chippy
