Welcome to 2013

It's been a while between posts, 3 months to be exact. So to start, I'll recap the last few events of 2012.
The State championships were a mixed bag for the MNC bowlers who had earned a start at this event held at Soldiers Point Bowling Club. First round exits were the fate of the Park Beach sides in the Fours, Senior Pairs and Open Singles. Nambucca's Jeff Thorn went one better in the Presidents Singles, reaching the final eight in the state. Park Beach Trio John Bain, Mark Menzies and Cory Daley claimed the best result for the MNC, losing a close encounter in the semi final of the Triples event.
The triples result must have been witnessed however by the right people, with the Park Beach Trio all selected to represent the NSW Country side for the annual City Vs Country test series.
The threesome all played well in this event held at Cabramatta in November, with Country winning the series two tests to one. Daley's performance saw him gain further selection in the NSW State Development squad, and he attended a camp at East Cessnock in December.

On the local front, the end of year saw the Annual Sawtell Triples Tournament abandoned due to lack of interest. Something needs to be done, and done quickly to turn around this trend of events not filling, otherwise son there will be no tournaments at all left for bowlers to compete in other than knock out events where for half the field they will only get to play the one match.

Park Beach announced their bowler of the year, with Aden Pike awarded the prestigious honour after a great year in club championships. Pike was a winner in the fours, runner up in the triples and semi finalist in the singles. A good year by any one's standards!

I trust all enjoyed the holiday season, and are looking forward to a big year in 2013!

Cheers,

Chippy
