Park Beach and Sawtell got off to ideal starts in the 2012 combined first and second grade division with hard fought victories on Saturday. In the match of the round Sawtell managed a four shot victory away at West Coffs for a 5-1 score line. In a match that could have gone either way Sawtell held on for a crucial away success winning on two rinks. Martin Wilson's rink earned a point for his club and kept the team in the match with a big victory over Ian Weldon's rink.
Park Beach Firsts travelled to Nambucca Heads and shot out to a comfortable 20 shot buffer which looked like they would hold until the finish, however some big scores in the home club's favour saw the margin reduce to just seven overall with seven ends remaining. Park Beach however snuffed out any hopes of a come from behind victory scoring eleven shots to two over the last seven ends to take a 5.5 - 0.5 victory. Tony Urquhart's rink secured the half point for the host club, drawing with Ric Southam.
Park Beach seconds completed a treble of away victories in round one when they upstaged hosts Urunga, also 5.5 - 0.5. Charlie Attard performed well skipping in the absence of regular skip Rob Wardrop, gaining a rink win. John Bradley played out a draw with Aden Pike to earn his club a half point.
As not all results from other grades are currently posted, the remaining grades report will be posted later...
Cheers,
Chippy
