District Singles - results so far

Phil Toy has remained on track to defend his MNC Senior Singles crown after defeating two club mates on his way to the semi final. His opponent is the last man standing for host club Sawtell, being Ray Cridge who earned his place with a win over Urunga's Grahame Horne. On the other side of the draw Park Beach team mates Noel Condon and Laurie Morris will square off.

In the Presidents Singles at Woolgoolga, youngster Aaron Gittoes is still alive, the Nambucca teen set to play club mate J Thorn, after both defeated Park Beach bowlers to advance to the final four. Mario Muscat reversed the trend of Park Beach defeats to progress and will play yet another Nambucca representative Chris Evans. So Sunday will determine if the title travels to Nambucca or Park Beach.

Eight bowlers representing six clubs remain in contention in the Open Singles hosted by Park Beach. In the first quarter final, Sawtell's P.T Clarke will take on Park Beach's Steve Plumb. Urunga's Heinz Burchgart will play Coffs Ex Services skipper Rod Hiscock. Park Beach's second qualifier Brett Sinnott has earned a match against Nambucca young gun Dan Gilmore after her survived a close encounter with an even younger gun Corey Wedlock in the round of sixteen. Finally, West Coff's Martin Wilson will challenge reigning champion Cory Daley for a semi final berth.
The high quality of bowls on display today unfortunately was tainted by a number of late forfeits, and more disappointingly, a number of losing players shirking their marking responsibilities. It never ceases to amaze how many commitments seem to appear for certain people when beaten, but funnily enough not when they win. There is only one way to stamp this out, which is to fine the parties responsible.

Good Luck to those remaining in contention and playing tomorrow!

Chippy
