Woolgoolga bowlers Shane Dodd and sub Greg Snowball (filling in for Dave Valentine) have played tremendously to capture their maiden District Pairs title hosted by Woolgoolga.
The duo dominated Sawtell's David Miles and Greg Proctor in the decider, taking full use of the home green advantage taking the match 23-9.
To reach the decider Snowball and Dodd knocked out the red hot favourites John Bain and Ric Southam by a shot, Dodd playing the winning shot with the last bowl of the match. Miles and Proctor claimed their first berth in an open final with a come from behind victory over Scotts Head Pair Dale Scrivener and Hagop Aladjadjian.
Both teams deserve congratulations and have served notice to all other bowlers within the district, as based on their current form, this will not be the last district final that any of these players reach.
Dodd and Valentine, assuming he has returned from his travels, will now take on Peter Taylor and Shane Globits in the zone final in June.
Woolgoolga now also boasts the District reserve pairs champions, with Ron Goodsir and Don Gambrill claiming the final against Coffs Ex Services duo skipped by J Bishop 20-6.
This is the second time Don Gambrill has now won this event, the experience helping his team over the line.
In the semi final they proved too strong for the Park Beach team skippered by Rick White, while Bishop and partner defeated A Peterson from Urunga.
Urunga's Josh Forbes claimed the hat trick in the junior events in his final year as an under eighteen, teaming with West Coffs Corey Wedlock to defeat Ben Watson and David Johnson in the decider 29-18 at Macksville after trailing 13-0!.
And finally, The District Senior Pairs is down to just two sides, with Sawtell providing both finalists. The decider will see Paul Bartholomew and partner clash with Barry Brown and partner. Bartholomew reached the decider with a victory over yet another Sawtell side containing J Townsend. Brown defeated Aden pike from Coffs Ex Services to book his place in the final.
Next weekend will see round ten of the District pennants played.
Til Next Time.....
Chippy
