Laurie Morris added to his impressive tally of district titles when he skippered his Park Beach side of Neil Williams, John Bennett and Phil Toy to a 22-17 victory over Urunga's Brett Sinnott, Chris Forbes, Chris McDonnell and Brett McDonnell at Coffs Ex Services on Sunday. The nineteenth end proved decisive with both skippers converting the head, Urunga a chance of scoring a five and levelling the scores before Morris drew the shot which put his team over the line.
Urunga skip Brett McDonnell converted with his last to keep his team within three playing the last but it was not to be for the Urunga team this year. The success was especially sweet for Neil Williams, taking out his maiden district title.
In the District Junior Singles final Urunga turned the tables on Park Beach when Josh Forbes outdrew his Park Beach opponent Kenita Monks to claim his first district singles title. The match was close for the most part however Forbes always held the ascendancy and pulled away over the final ends as Monks searched for a way back into the match. Forbes will play Jai Whelan in the zone final.
Next Sunday will see the commencement of the District Open, Junior, Senior and Presidents Pairs at numerous venues in the district.
