After what seems like an eternity of waiting, the 2012 MNC district championships will commence this Sunday weather permitting at Park Beach. The Fours will be the opening event of the year, and the host club will be odds on to claim the winning entrant with ten of the twenty two entrants wearing Park Beach colours!
Round one Sunday morning will see twelve teams take to the green, with the six winners being joined by ten others in the second round after lunch. The event appears to have a number of high quality teams entered this year with any number of sides capable of taking out the title.
The West Coffs entry skippered by Martin Wilson will take some beating but will have a tough first up encounter against Sawtell's Ian Muller skipped side. Rod Farmer's Park Beach team will be amongst the favourites competing in round one as will Paul Bartholomew's Sawtell outfit.
Last year's runner's up side from Urunga has lost two of it's members but with skipper Brett McDonnell still at the helm they will still be in the mix. Perhaps the clash of the opening round will be between the solid Scotts Head line up headed by Hagop Aladjadjian against Park Beach's entrant skippered by Rex Holloway.
The most heartening thing of the event would have to be the number of new names found in the team listings. It's great to see the newer bowlers, or those new to the area stepping to compete against the regular competitors.
Round two will see the reigning champions, being Laurie Morris and company from the host club take to the green against Athol Grogan's Urunga side. The top side which received the lions share of the byes is littered with teams of merit, with Park Beach sides skippered by Don Wood, Cory Daley and Jim Swan joined by Coffs Ex Services sides skippered by Grant Blom and Tony Wills, Sawtell's Ian Weldon and Nambucca's John Wright.
Looking into the crystal ball, the semi final predictions are: Wood Vs Morris, and Aladjadjian Vs Wilson/Farmer...
Good Luck to all involved and lets pray for clear weather for both days!
Cheers,
Chippy
